Report Spammers with Spam Inspector

By , About.com Guide

Spam Inspector can automatically remove most of the junk mail from your email Inboxes (if you train it well). That's great.

But wouldn't it be even greater if you could help stop spam altogether in its tracks, help preventing spam before it gets sent? Spam Inspector lets you do that, too.

Spam Inspector comes with a very useful and accurate tool that reports spammers to their ISPs. The ISP can then take action against the junk mailer. It will cost the spammer money, and their internet connection might be interrupted (at least if the Internet Service Provider is a responsible one and not spam-friendly). Now here's how to have Spam Inspector do its magic, analyze the spam to identify the appropriate recipient for complaints and send the spam report.

To report spammers with Spam Inspector:

  • Highlight the junk email message you want to complain about.
  • Click Report on the Spam Inspector toolbar.
  • Wait for Spam Inspector to analyze the message's headers.
  • Click the Report button.
    • Optionally, you can select additional spam report recipients by making sure their checkboxes are selected and via the More... link under Where the above report will be sent.
    • Usually, you should go with what Spam Inspector suggests -- the addresses highlighted in blue -- as it is very reasonable.
