Purge Old News Automatically in SharpReader

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

Make makes news interesting is their novelty. Consequently, old news are uninteresting, at least until their ancient age makes them a novelty again.

Of course, this does not apply to all categories of news, but for some at least keeping an archive of old news items ad infitem in SharpReader makes no sense, not even considering SharpReader's ingenious way of displaying references and relationships between news.

Fortunately, you don't have to. You can make SharpReader keep its collection of news clean and recent by throwing away old news automatically, and you can tell it when a story is "old".

To purge old news automatically in SharpReader:

  • Go to the desired feed.
  • Select Tools | Feed Properties in the menu if it is not already checked.
  • Under Auto Purge, choose the desired MaxAge age.

By default, SharpReader does not delete unread items automatically. This can make sense, though, and you can turn it on in the same Feed Properties, under PurgeUnreadItems.
