Guide Review - Schmaili 8.41 - Smiley Tool

I like the minimalist simplicity of plain text smileys (they allow me to hide my lack of creativity I am ,-) , but the animated smileys of Schmaili have a lot going for them, too. They are decently drawn and they are graphics, they are cute, funny and, well, animated.

Schmaili makes it really easy to insert these great graphical smileys in email messages. It takes just one click and maybe two or three seconds. The smiley is attached as a tiny animated gif, so there's nothing to be downloaded from a remote server on the recipient's end — at least not usually.

A special feature of Schmaili allows you to use the smileys as tracking devices, telling you when (or if) your email has been opened. Since this tracking is not visible to the recipient, this is a questionable feature, though. Well, you don't have to use it. You can add your own smileys instead, or marvel at the impressive and nicely categorized collection that Schmaili comes with.

Unfortunately, Schmaili uses a generic "alt" text for all smileys instead of a (more or less appropriate) plain text smiley equivalent. Schmaili's user interface could also need some polishing, and keywords in combination with search might make it easier to find certain emoticons. Schmaili does collect your most often used smileys for quick access, though.
