Make Sure POPFile Never Thinks Newsletters are Spam

By , About.com Guide

Usually, POPFile doesn't make any mistakes — after a reasonable amount of training. Until then, but even when they Bayesian filtering has kicked in with full accuracy it can be a good idea to whitelist certain senders.

You can, for example, map all About newsletters to a special bucket in POPFile so you'll never ever have to look for them elsewhere (and so they'll never be in your way elsewhere). But let me caution you to be very conservative with magnets in POPFile as they can significantly reduce POPFile's accuracy.

To make sure POPFile never thinks certain newsletters are spam:

  • Open the POPFile user interface.
  • Select Magnets from the top POPFile navigation bar.
  • Make sure From is selected under Magnet type:.
  • Type the email address or domain name you want to whitelist.
    • To whitelist all About newsletters, for example, type "about.com".
  • Select the desired bucket.
  • Click Create.
