How to Keep Deleted Messages in a Trash in Pegasus Mail

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

Do you sometimes press Del when you wanted to press End? I certainly do. Has it happened to you that you have deleted a message in Pegasus Mail that you really wanted to keep? Happens to me all the time.

Fortunately, Pegasus Mail provides a safety net. Instead of deleting messages immediately, Pegasus Mail can move them to a Deleted Messages folder. They're out of the way, but you can bring them back easily if you deleted a message mistakenly.

Keep Deleted Messages in a Trash in Pegasus Mail

To make Pegasus Mail keep deleted messages in the Deleted Messages folder instead of purging them immediately:

  • Select Tools | Options... from the menu in Pegasus Mail.
  • Go to General settings | Basic settings.
  • Make sure Preserve deleted messages until Pegasus Mail closes is selected.
  • Click OK.

Just like the setting says, Pegasus Mail will automatically empty the Deleted Messages folder when you close the program by default. But by changing another setting, you can keep them as long as you wish — even across sessions.

Undelete a Message from the Pegasus Mail Trash

To recover a deleted message in Pegasus Mail, go to the Deleted Messages folder and move the message to the New mail folder, or any other folder.
