Motino - Outlook Spam Filtering Add-On

The Bottom Line

Motino is at the same time very easy to use and very efficient at removing spam from your Outlook Inbox. There isn't much more to say, it just works — unfortunately not with IMAP, though. Motino is no longer available.
Pros
  • Motino detects and removes spam precisely
  • Easy to use, Motino hums along with no configuration
  • Motino learns quickly
Cons
  • Motino doesn't support IMAP accounts
  • Only available for Outlook
  • If Motino could classify emails further, that would be nice

Description

  • Motino is a spam filtering add-in for Outlook.
  • Using advanced Bayesian statistical analysis, Motino learns fast and spots junk precisely.
  • Motino moves detected spam to a special quarantine folder.
  • Teaching Motino happens via two toolbar button: "Good Mail" and "Junk mail".
  • In addition, Motino can use a black and white list of senders.
  • Motino supports Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/3/XP and Outlook 2000/2/3.

Guide Review - Motino 2.0 - Outlook Spam Filtering Add-On

Junk mail filtering is great, but only if it happens effortlessly. Merely replacing the hassle of dealing with spam with the hassle of dealing with a spam filter is not quite it.

Motino is refreshingly simple. The two buttons you see in the screenshot are really all there is to Motino, and most of the time you don't even need these. After just a bit of training (Motino learns fast by Bayesian standards), Motino moves the spam to a quarantine folder and leaves your good mail alone.

Of course, teaching and correcting mistakes is easy with "the buttons". If you cannot convince yourself that this is enough (I think you should try, but I might be wrong), Motino lets you add addresses to lists of approved or blocked senders. The major drawback to Motino is that not everybody can use it: if you're either not using Outlook or using IMAP, you're out of luck.
