How to Create a New Message Using Stationery in Windows Mail or Outlook Express

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

You have just installed this wonderful stationery. It's time to put it to good use.

Two simple ways lead to new messages using stationery in Windows Mail and Outlook Express.

Create a New Message Using Stationery in Windows Mail or Outlook Express

The first method to creae a new message using stationery in Windows Mail or Outlook Express makes use of the toolbar:

  • Click on the down arrow to the right of the Create Mail button in the Outlook Express toolbar.
  • Choose Select Stationery... from the menu.
  • Look for the stationery you want to use in the list (you can use the Preview to identify it).
  • Highlight the desired stationery with the mouse.
  • Click OK.

Windows Mail or Outlook Express creates a new message and applies the stationery to it.

The second way is via the menu:

  • Select Message | New Message Using | Select Stationery... from the menu in Outlook Express.
  • Now, follow the steps above.

Don't Apply Stationery While Editing

Note that, unfortunately, applying stationery to a message while you are composing it in Windows Mail or Outlook Express (via Format | Stationery) does not work reliably. Usually, it's better to use one of the methods above instead.
