How to Display all Header Lines in Windows Mail or Outlook Express

If you need to track errors or want to analyze and report spam, a look at all the message headers is mandatory. By default, Windows Mail and Outlook Express only display the most important ones (like the sender and the subject).

Display all Header Lines in Windows Mail or Outlook Express

To view all an email message's headers in Windows Mail or Outlook Express:

  • Highlight the message in the Windows Mail or Outlook Express message list.
  • Click on the message with the right mouse button.
  • Select Properties from the context menu.
  • Switch to the Details tab.

To copy the headers, right-click anywhere in the text area that contains the header lines and choose Select All from the menu that comes up. Now right-click again and select Copy.

Note: You can also display the HTML source of a message (without any headers) or the complete message source (including all the headers) in Windows Mail and Outlook Express.
