Save Attachments via Drag And Drop in Windows Mail or Outlook Express

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

Attachments appear in email messages inside Windows Mail and Outlook Express, but this is usually not where you want them to have their final destination. Normally, you would save them to a folder on your hard disk.

Outlook Express provides an easy, quick and hassle-free way to do this.

Save Attachments via Drag And Drop in Windows Mail or Outlook Express

To save attachments by dragging them around and dropping them in place from Outlook Express:

  • Open the message containing the attachment in a new file.
  • Click on the attachment inside the message's top Attach: area with the left mouse button.
  • Keep the mouse button pressed while you drag the attachment to your Desktop or over a folder.
  • Drop the attachment there by releasing the mouse button.

The attached file is copied to the location where you dropped it and you can open it from there.

If you prefer using the menu, you can also save attachments via that route.
