This article explains how to create a vCard in Microsoft Outlook to store your business and personal contacts. Instructions apply to Outlook for Microsoft 365, Outlook 2019, Outlook 2016, Outlook 2013, Outlook 2010, and Outlook Online.

How to Create a vCard in the Outlook Desktop App

Building a vCard is similar to creating an address book entry. Saving contacts as vCards stores a large number of contacts efficiently.

  1. Start Outlook, go to the bottom of the navigation pane, then select People or Contacts.

  2. Go to the Home tab and, in the Current View group, select People.

  4. In the Contact window, enter the Full Name, Email address, and other information for the contact. As you enter information, it appears in the business card.

  5. Go to the Contact tab and select Save & Close.

  6. The contact is added to your contacts list and is available on any device you use to access your Outlook email.

Creating vCards makes it easy to transfer contact information to a different email program by exporting information to a VCF file and then importing that file to the other email program.

How to Export a vCard in the Outlook Desktop App

To export an Outlook contact to a VCF file for sharing or storing:

  1. Select the listing for the contact that you want to export.

    To share a vCard as an attachment to an email message, select Forward Contact > As a Business Card.

  2. Go to File > Save As.

  3. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the file.

    The Save As dialog box enters the contact name followed by the .vcf file extension as the File name and chooses vCard Files (*.vcf) as the Save as type.

How to Create a vCard in Outlook Online

To add contacts to your Outlook address book online from new information or contact information already in your Outlook.com account:

  1. Go to the View Switcher and select People.

  3. Enter the First name, Last name, Email address, and other contact information.

    To display an image of the person in the vCard, select Add a photo.
