How to Insert an Image Inline in an Email with Windows Mail or Outlook Express

By , About.com Guide

Sure, I can append my latest (beautiful!) holiday pictures as attachments to my emails in Windows Mail or Outlook Express. But then recipients have to save and open them separately.

I'd rather have them see the images inside the email. Fortunately, Outlook Express lets me achieve just that easily, too.

Insert an Image Inline in an Email with Windows Mail or Outlook Express

To include an image inline in a message sent from Windows Mail or Outlook Express:

  • Create a new message using HTML formatting in Windows Mail or Outlook Express.
  • Put the cursor where you want to include the image in the body of your message.
  • Select Insert | Picture... from the menu.
  • Click Insert (Windows Mail) or OK (Outlook Express) to insert the image.
  • Select Format from the message's menu and make sure Send Pictures with Message is checked.

If you want to type text to the right or left of the image, you can do so by changing the picture's alignment.
