How to Make NewsGator Check for News Periodically, Automatically

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

News that come via RSS news feeds, like emails, are best served fresh. So you're probably clicking that Get News button on the NewsGator toolbar (or checking individual feeds) fairly regularly.

Fortunately, there's another way to get news frequently that is more comfortable and more bandwidth friendly. You can make NewsGator fetch new items automatically on a schedule.

Make NewsGator Check for News Periodically, Automatically

To make NewsGator check for news automatically and periodically:

  • Select NewsGator | Options... from the NewsGator toolbar in Outlook.
  • Go to the Options tab.
  • Make sure Retrieve news automatically every __ minutes is enabled.
  • Enter your preferred interval.
    • The general recommendation is not to check more often than every 30-60 minutes, but
    • I recommend you use a longer default period, about once per day (that's 1440 minutes).
  • Click OK.
