Display the Publish Date of News Items in NewsGator

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

By default, Outlook displays the date when a news item was received in NewsGator. This is certainly interesting.

If I read a book, it's interesting to know when I bought it. Was it years ago or only yesterday? Even more interesting, though, is to know when the book has first been published.

In NewsGator, you can get this publishing information for news postings, too, if you dig a bit in Outlook's menus. You can make Outlook display the publishing date of news items (if available) instead of the date when NewsGator downloaded them, or both. You can even sort the list by publishing date.

To display the publish date of news items in NewsGator:

  • Click on the Field Chooser icon in the Outlook toolbar.
    • Alternatively, click on any column heading with the right mouse button.
    • Select Field Chooser from the menu that comes up.
  • Select User-defined fields in folder.
  • Drag and drop the Publish Date field to the desired location in the column list.
  • Close the Field Chooser.
