Keep Your Email Signature to 5 Lines of Text

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

Signatures can be almost anything: funny, interesting, quotations, stock quotes, programs, empty space, your address, ASCII art,... but they should always also be brief.

Overly long signature lines are irritating. If the signature takes up more space than the message itself, it is not always clear to the eye what it should pay attention to. This is especially true when the sig involves fancy HTML formatting.

Trim Your Signature to This Length

This is why you should

  • trim your signature to not more than five lines

and, bien-sûr, make it as interesting, but also as unobtrusive as possible.
