Stop the Netscape or Mozilla Spell Checker from Complaining about URLs

By , About.com Guide

The Netscape spell checker (or its counterpartsin Mozilla or Mozilla Thunderbird) is not bad, but it is not really good either.

One thing irks me in particular: the Mozilla Thunderbird or Netscape spell checker keeps complaining about URLs (not that uncommon in emails, are they?). Fortunately, this shortcoming can be circumvented.

To stop the Netscape or Mozilla spell checker from complaining about URLs:

  • Stop inserting URLs directly.
  • Instead, use Mozilla Thunderbird's comfortable method for entering HTML links in messages.

This prevents the spell checker from checking the URL.

If you decide to send the message in plain text (or HTML and plain text), Netscape and Mozilla automatically convert the link to proper plain text, too. "This link" turns to "This link <http://email.about.com/>", for example.
