How to Check the Spelling of a Message in Mozilla Thunderbird or Mozilla

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

Nobody's perfect, but spelling mistakes can be embarrassing. To catch at least some of the typing mishaps, employ the spell checker built into Netscape and check your spelling with it.

Check the Spelling of a Message in Mozilla Thunderbird, Netscape or Mozilla

To scan a message you are composing in Mozilla Thunderbird, Netscape or Mozilla:

  • Select Options | Check Spelling... from the menu.
    • Tools | Check Spelling... in Netscape 4.

If you find it hard to remember that spell checking is an option, maybe you have more luck memorizing the keyboard shortcut for this command:

  • Ctrl-K on Windows, Alt-K on Unix and Command-K on a Mac.

While Mozilla does not come with a spell checker itself prior to version 1.5, you can easily install one.
