Group Messages by Thread in Mac OS X Mail

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

If things start to get confusing, nothing is more important than the red thread. Ariadne and, later, Theseus knew this, and if you've ever seen a discussion with a friend or on a mailing list spread among dozens of other messages in your Mac OS X Mail In box, you know it too.

Luckily, Ariadne had a thread with her. Luckily, Mac OS X Mail comes with a powerful tool that helps you see messages that belong together clearly and in a logical, a chronological order.

To group messages by thread in Mac OS X Mail:

  • Select View | Organize by Thread from the menu.

Should you ever want to turn off this feature again, use the same menu item (to make sure Organize by Thread is unchecked.
