It's such a pity that Mac OS X Mail doesn't offer message templates... but wait. It's easy to save a message as a draft for later editing in Mac OS X Mail, and nowhere does it say that you can't edit it more than once. Yes, Mail's Drafts folder can be used as a simple, but functional folder for message templates.
Use Draft Messages as Templates in Mac OS X Mail 1.3
To save a draft messages as templates in Mac OS X Mail:
- Create a new message.
- Edit it to contain your template text.
- It's a good idea to use a Subject: that helps you recognize the template in the Drafts folder.
- Click the Save As Draft button.
- Close the message composition window.
Now, to use the message template:
- Go to the Drafts folder.
- Highlight the message you want to use as a template.
- Select Message | Redirect from the menu.
- Alternatively, you can also press Command-Shift-E.
- Edit and deliver the message as usual.
In Mac OS X Mail 2.x (Tiger and later), you can use drafts as message templates as well.
