No email is complete without a signature — a few lines of contact information, maybe a witty quote or some (self-)marketing at the end.

In Windows Live Hotmail and MSN Hotmail, you can set up a signature easily, and it will be appended to all emails you write automatically. Here's how to do it.

Set up Your Windows Live Hotmail Signature

To create a signature for use in your Windows Live Hotmail emails:

  • Select Options | More Options... (or just Options) from the Windows Live Hotmail toolbar.
  • Click Personal e-mail signature under Customize your mail.
  • Enter the desired signature and add any formatting or images.
  • Click Save.

Set up Your MSN Hotmail Signature

To create your email signature in MSN Hotmail:

  • Select Options from the Hotmail navigation bar.
  • Go to the Mail category.
  • Follow the Personal Signature link.
  • Type the desired signature in the text field.
    • MSN Hotmail does not include the standard signature delimiter automatically, so you should do that manually when composing your signature.
  • Click OK.

Add Rich Formatting to Your MSN Hotmail Signature

If you use MSN Hotmail with Internet Explorer on Windows, you can add some formatting to beef it up.

Windows Live Hotmail and MSN Hotmail will include your signature automatically when you compose a message. If you don't want it in a message, simply delete it like normal text.
