Review and Empty the Hotmail Junk Mail Folder Now and Then

By , About.com Guide

Hotmail comes with some pretty decent anti-spam filters. They automatically put all the spam they detect in the Junk Mail folder. While all messages in this folder are automatically deleted after 14 days by Hotmail, the folder can grow quickly, and it counts towards your allowed Hotmail mailbox space.

That's why it is a good idea to review the contents of the folder (maybe the anti-spam filters have caught a legit message) now and then, and empty it afterwards. Doing so is easy.

To empty your Hotmail Junk Mail folder after having reviewed the messages in it:

  • Go to the Hotmail Junk E-Mail folder.
  • Click the Empty button.
  • Confirm your choice with Yes.

Now you can use the reclaimed Hotmail space for more important mail.
