How to Block a Domain in Outlook Mail on the Web

Block domains using blocked senders or email rules

What to Know

  • In Outlook settings, choose Mail > Junk email. Under Blocked senders and domains, choose Add. Enter a domain name and select Save.
  • Create a filter: Go to Outlook settings > Mail > Rules > Add new rule. Select conditions, such as a domain to exclude, then choose actions.
  • Rules and filters can be used to specify conditions that prevent certain emails from reaching you or being deleted.

With Outlook Mail on the web, you can block messages from individual senders, as well as entire domains. Here, we show you how to use Outlook.com and Outlook Online to block specific domains, as well as how to create rules or filters for blocking other types of messages.

  5. Type the domain name you want to block, then press Enter to add the domain to the list.

The domain name appears after the @ in an email address. For example, if the recipient is client1@clientcompany.com, the domain is clientcompany.com.

  6. Select Save, then close the Settings dialog box.

Now when you get an email from that domain, it's automatically diverted to your Junk Email folder.

  10. Select Save to finish.

  11. Close the Settings dialog box.

Any email from the domain you've defined in the rule automatically goes to the Junk Email folder. Only email addresses you've specified in the exclusions are allowed in your inbox and won't be diverted to the Junk Email folder.
