Compose a New Message by Keyboard Shortcut in FastMail

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

If you write emails, at least occasionally, you're probably familiar with the Compose link in FastMail. But did you know that clicking it is not the only way to start composing a new message?

In modern browsers (Internet Explorer 5+, Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Opera 6+ and Netscape 6+), various features of FastMail are accessible through convenient keyboard shortcuts, just as they are in a desktop email program. One of these often-used features is creating a new email.

To compose a new message by keyboard shortcut in FastMail:

  • Press Alt-C (Windows, Unix) or Ctrl-C (Mac).
  • In Internet Explorer for Windows:
    • Hit Return.
  • Use the Tab key to jump between the To, Cc, Bcc and Subject fields and the message body.
  • Compose your message.
  • Press Ctrl-Enter to send the message.
    • This last keyboard shortcut does not work in Safari.
