I'll probably decide to put the message in the folder containing the messages with photos. Why? Because that's a criterion I cannot build a search for easily. But if I want to find all mail from my aunt, I don't visit her folder but create a search for messages containing her email address in the From: line instead. Likewise for hiking. That's not perfect.
Fortunately, Evolution has vFolders.
A Evolution vFolder
- looks like a folder,
- but has no messages physically attached to it.
Instead, a vFolder is
- defined by a set of criteria, like a message search.
You just don't have to manually enter the search criteria every time: A vFolder
- always contains the latest messages in all your (physical) mail folders that match its criteria.
The mail from my aunt in the beautiful photos folder shows up in the vFolder with my aunt's email address as the criterion automatically, and it's in the vFolder with messages containing "hiking" in the body, too. Simple, effective, perfect.
