How to Permanently Delete Yahoo Mail Messages

You can empty the Trash folder by permanently deleting messages in your Trash folder in the web version of Yahoo Mail.

1. In the folders list, hover the mouse cursor over the Trash folder.

2. Select the trashcan icon that appears.

3. An Empty the Trash folder confirmation message appears asking if you are sure you want to permanently delete all emails in Trash. In the confirmation dialog box, select OK.

4. Your Trash folder is now empty.

To purge all mail from the Trash folder in Yahoo Mail Basic, select Empty next to Trash.

To empty the trash in the mobile app:

1. Select the hamburger menu (the three stacked lines) in the upper-left corner.

2. Select the trashcan icon next to the Trash folder.

3. In the confirmation dialog box, select OK.

How to Recover Mail After You've Emptied the Yahoo Mail Trash

If you act quickly, you might be able to recover messages you deleted from your trash folder. Either download all the messages that came through your Yahoo Mail account, or forward them to a different email address either automatically or manually. You're not technically undeleting so much as you're racing against time before the Yahoo servers fully synchronize your deletions across all your devices.

To recover an important message after it has been purged from the trash:

1. Go to the Yahoo Mail Restore Help Form and select Recover lost or deleted emails.

2. Enter your Yahoo ID or email address where prompted, then follow the on-screen instructions.
