How to Negative-filter Spam
From your Email Guide

Unsolicited commercial email, aka Spam, seems to be unavoidable. You can, however, limit it to one folder in your email program.

Difficulty Level: Average    Time Required: 25 minutes

Here's How:
  1. Launch your email program.
  2. Create a number of folders for incoming mail, at least: "Friends/Family", "Work", "Newsletters", and one for every mailing list with higher traffic.
  3. Set up filters to transfer all new email from one of your friends' or family's email addresses to the "Friends/Family" folder.
  4. Create filters that will drop all mail from your boss (and colleagues) to the "Work" folder.
  5. Have filters transfer all email newsletters to the folder called "Newsletters".
  6. Set up a filter for every mailing list that you have created a folder for.
  7. Read your important messages every day in the incoming mail folders without being disturbed by spam.
  8. Watch unsolicited messages pile up in your inbox.

Tips:

  1. Of course, you can create more, less, or other mailboxes than those suggested above.
  2. For every newsletter or mailing list you subscribe to, immediately set up the necessary folders and filters. Do the same for new colleagues and friends.
