What is Unicode?

Umbrella? Rainy weather.
What happens when rain drops appear and dot the brolly? That's showery weather, of course, and worse, I presume.
Thankfully, the very next symbol in Unicode's universal table of characters is just what we need now: a hot beverage, "tea or coffee, depending on locale". The steaming cup warms not just the hands, of course, but also the heart.
Let us, thus, warm to Unicode. It is a bag of wonders, as we have seen, and an assortment of weathers — but what else?
