As is proper for any respectable philosopher, Aristotle used to walk around while teaching. This is why his school is called the "peripatetic" or "wandering".
This etymology is, of course, wrong. It is true, though, that "peri-" means "around". Add to this "hodos", "going", and you get periodos, a going-around, a circle, a cycle of events, a period of time.
