Which Free Email Service Do You Use?

Saturday August 8, 2009

I learned a word I like in test designing class: acquiescence, there, means people's tendency to answer "yes", "correct" and "true" no matter the question.
Fortunately, "Which free email service do you use?" avoids this trap; let me ask you a different question, though: Will you respond?
›› Have you been using the same free email service for years, or switched recently? What makes you stay? What made you switch? What would make you switch?

How does one go about obtaining a free e-mail account or service?

(5) Jason says:

I do not use any free email services (aka gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc.) I host my own email or use the email provided from my ISP.

How does one obtain one? Go to gmail.com and sign up. Gmail is great, so why change? Does anything really rival it?

I use Outlook at work and it works well with Xobni plugged in, but for personal stuff, I can’t beat gmail.

I’ve used all sorts of web mail services throughout the years, and also Mozilla Thunderbird for a while, but I am currently with Yahoo! and don’t plan on switching.

OE 6 and Thunderbird 2.0.0.23

Both work well for me.

Gmail. I am comfortable with the way it works and the fact that Google periodically improves it with updates.

Been using Gmail for just about as long as it’s been available. No complaints.

I use Google mail. I can use it as web mail while travelling, and as a normal pop mail with Outlook at home. It links readily with google calendar and appears to be free from technical bugs and crashes. It is also very fast with delivery.

for different purposes, I use gmail, yahoo, and email. of the 3 i prefer yahoo.

(14) Jamie says:

(continued) …. i prefer yahoo because of the way it handles graphics, the folders, and i like how (from the inbox view) i can click on (select) several separate messages then send them all together in a single email by clicking forward. i like gmail when i’m sharing info (like party planning) with friends since all the emails are grouped in threads.

Yahoo and Gmail for the reasons stated already by other contributors.

ANYTHING but Outlook which is a royal pain in the a*s, whether it’s the free or paid version.

Hi All,

I love this site. It is so informative. I have a bushel of free E-mail accounts and with the exception of Yahoo, they all serve me well with superior support. I suspended use of Yahoo and hope it dies on the vine. Every time I log on there’s some problem like having to do this or that. In addition, every time I log on my virus protection screen lights up like a Christmas tree with warnings of this and that. Not the case with all the others. I have no idea what the problem is but I simply do not use it. Have a good day.

Does Microsoft plan to stop support of Outlook 2003 like they did with Outlook Express? I switched to Outlook last year with my new PC, but I have webmail accts with my ISP and with Yahoo (which I hate for many reasons already stated).
I am slightly paranoid about using gmail because so much spam comes from their site, and I don’t like the idea of the data they collect on their users. Am I being unreasonable?
