Oliver Wendell Holmes was on a ship to Europe, shaving. A little round tin box was, as good luck and a foresightful gift-giver would have it, with him. Inside the box was one of the brother Kampfe's patented Star safety razors.
Kampfe would later use O. W. Holmes Senior's endorsement in advertising for their razors, whose design was first patented on June 15, 1880 — 129 years ago today.
