Everybody is connected to everybody else; living and dead. Good deeds help the breathing, and prayers the deceased — especially late family members and good friends.
You're also connected to people whose relatives and friends have gone, though. Who prays for them? Poor people going around on All Saints, praying in return for soul cakes.
