Do you know Martin Sohr, who took up the beautiful name of "Agricola"? Neither did I, but according to records he was born 520 years ago today, so he must be interesting, right?
He is, in particular to people who want to build or learn to play old instruments in their original form. Agricola, a self-taught musician, was not only composer and teacher (cantor at Magdeburg), but he also published an important opus on instruments, Musica instrumentalis deudsch (in rhymed verse). The descriptions of early organs are particularly valuable, and they are also what made me think of httpmail, whose countless switches, pedals, settings and pipes can be a bit confusing to orchestrate.
